Raspberry Pi Zero W 22-Pin Camera: Cable Checklist

Chinneo |

A camera flex cable is small enough that a reversed or incompletely seated end can be easy to miss. Chinneo's Zero W Dedicated Camera is currently described as a 22-pin-interface product. This article focuses on connector handling, not on claiming a particular sensor, lens angle, or tested image quality.

Know which connector you are looking at

Raspberry Pi documents the camera connector on Zero-series boards as a smaller 22-pin type and shows where it sits on the board. Its official camera installation guide also advises disconnecting power, opening the connector latch carefully, seating the cable straight, and checking the metal-contact orientation. Follow the instructions for your exact Pi board revision. A third-party camera may have a different camera-side arrangement, so check both ends of the cable rather than applying a photo from another module blindly.

Before connecting, identify the host-side end of the ribbon, the camera-side end, the exposed contacts on each end, and the orientation markings on the actual board. Do not force a latch. If the ribbon is unusually stiff in your enclosure, revise the route instead of folding it sharply across the connector.

A short pre-power check

  1. Power is disconnected from the Zero W.
  2. The camera and host connectors have been identified on the exact hardware.
  3. The ribbon is fully inserted, straight, and held by both latches.
  4. The exposed contacts face the correct way according to the actual connector documentation.
  5. No cable is pinched by the case or pulled tight when the camera is mounted.

This is a handling checklist, not a verified wiring diagram for ZERO-CAM. If the product's photos do not show the connector clearly enough, request a current image or diagram of the selected SKU before powering the assembly. Review the current Zero W 22-pin listing for the sold option.
