IMX662 IR-CUT Camera: What Does a Day/Night Project Need?

IMX662 MIPI camera module with lens and circuit board

Chinneo |

The IMX662 camera module is currently listed as a 2MP MIPI camera with IR-CUT. Its one Shopify variant names a 15-pin cable and a 15-to-22-pin cable. Those details are a useful starting point, but a day/night camera also depends on how the filter is controlled, what light is available, and whether the host can operate the module.

An IR-CUT filter is not an infrared lamp

An infrared-cut filter is used to limit infrared light reaching a color sensor in daytime-style imaging. A day/night design may move that filter out of the optical path when using infrared lighting. But the presence of “IR-CUT” in a product title does not prove the exact switching mechanism, controller, or infrared illumination included with this module. Raspberry Pi's explanation of standard and NoIR cameras illustrates why a camera that admits IR still needs infrared lighting to see in darkness; it is background optics guidance, not a test of this IMX662 product.

Before buying, ask whether your setup needs color accuracy in daylight, visibility in a dim room, or imaging in darkness with separate IR illumination. Those are different tests. A sensor's marketing description cannot replace a sample image captured under your intended lighting.

Verify the complete MIPI path

The live option names two cable types. Match the camera-side connector, host-side connector, pinout, cable orientation, and software support for your exact board. In particular, having a 15-to-22-pin cable does not make every 22-pin host compatible. Confirm the driver and capture pipeline for this specific IMX662 module. If automatic day/night switching is essential, request the required control wiring or trigger details before ordering.

Bottom line: Treat IR-CUT, lighting, cabling, and software as four separate decisions. Use the IMX662 product page to identify the sold option, then resolve the unknowns for your project rather than assuming “night vision” is a complete feature package.
